“
How we all need to understand Abraham, who is in so many ways the father of Jewish, Christian and Islamic faith! 'In so many ways': that's the problem! As George Bristow demonstrates in this thorough exploration, our different ways of understanding Abraham indicate our differences as well as our agreements. By taking us to the Bible and to the Qur'an, he shows how the stories of Abraham reflect the whole world-views of the Scriptures in which they appear. We also see how discussion of these stories can be the basis of discussion between Muslims and Christians, enabling all to think more about God and to learn more about each other's faith. I can think of few discussion topics that are more needed in today's world.
“
Dr Bristow invites the children of Abraham to consider patiently and charitably the disputed legacy of Father Abraham. The author moves sure-footedly through the three households of faith, eloquently offering countless insights to challenge and inform Jews, Christians and Muslims. He conscientiously accomplishes his task with scrupulous care and attention to detail.
Dr Bristow investigates in the context of his life and (Christian) mission in an important Muslim-majority nation, making his achievement all the more remarkable. The result is a book which readily distinguishes itself as a scholarly and responsible work in a crowded field of popular polemic.

BIO

I've spent the past 30 years in the amazing city of Istanbul - half of my life! Church planting and theological training among Turkish Protestant Christians keeps me busy most of the time. Engaging Muslim clerics on their use of the Abraham stories in the Qur'an figured largely in
the comparative theology research for my doctorate.
